The Cardiopulmonary Services Department at Lincoln County Medical Center offers a wide range of services that are available to individuals who experience respiratory and cardiopulmonary difficulties. Services are designed to achieve individual patient goals and let them function to their fullest potential.
The Cardiopulmonary Department, which is located on the first floor of the Medical Center, encompasses these services- EEG (Electroencephalography), EKG (Electrocardiography), ECHO (Cardiac Utrasound), Pulmonary Function Lab, Respiratory Therapy, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Cardiac Stess Test, Holter Monitoring, and Sleep Disorders Center.
EEG An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test to detect abnormalities in the electrical activity of the brain. Brain cells communicate by producing tiny electrical impulses. In an EEG, electrodes are placed on the scalp over multiple areas of the brain to detect and record patterns of electrical activity and check for abnormalities.
Lincoln County Medical Center provides inpatient and outpatient diagnostic services related to neurologic disorders for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
ECG An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a test that records the electrical activity of the heart. ECG is used to measure the rate and regularity of heartbeats as well as the size and position of the chambers, the presence of any damage to the heart, and the effects of drugs or devices used to regulate the heart (such as a pacemaker).
LCMC provides inpatient and outpatient diagnostic ECGs and holter monitors for infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
ECHO The new Live 3D Echo ultrasound system recently acquired by Lincoln County Medical Center is the newest technology that provides true, real-time, three-dimensional images of the heart. This innovation allows cardiologists to view 3D images of the heart instantaneously, as if they were holding it in their hands, viewing it from different perspectives and looking at the intricate correlation between valves, chambers, and vessels. This real-time view into the heart is helping physicians better diagnose cardiac problems, is becoming a valuable tool in surgical planning, and is offering patients a better understanding of their condition. "Ultrasound imaging is a relatively low cost, noninvasive way to look inside the body. And now with this system, we can view the heart in a new way and get much more diagnostic information than before," says Skip Pizzurro, Cardiopulmonary Director
RESPIRATORY THERAPY Provides a full range of services to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients on both inpatient and outpatient basis. The department provides respiratory therapy in the intensive care unit, the general floor care areas, the emergency room, arterial blood gas laboratories and the pulmonary function laboratory. Specific services provided include-Ventilator management, Arterial blood gas puncture and analysis, Administration of medications by aerosol and other routes, Chest physiotherapy, Oximetry, Extubation, IPPB (Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing), Incentive Spirometry, Aerosol therapy, Bedside therapy, Critical care transport, Artificial airway care, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Bronchial hygiene, Pulmonary function testing, Bi-level ventilation (BiPAP), and CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). The services at Lincoln County Medical Center are provided by caring, registered respiratory therapists who are licensed by the state of Missouri.
PULMONARY REHABILITATION Provides progressive exercise and education under medical supervision to individuals with chronic pulmonary disease. It combines exercise training and behavioral and educational programs designed to help patients with COPD control symptoms and improve day-to-day activities. It is a team approach-patients work closely with their doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, and dietitians.
The main goals of Pulmonary Rehabilitation are to help patients improve their day-t o-day lives and restore their ability to function independently. It is used primarily for patients with COPD, and other chronic lung conditions such as interstitial diseases, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, thoracic cage abnormalities, and neuromuscular disorders. Pulmonary Rehabilitation can also be helpful to those who need lung transplants or other lung surgeries. The Pulmonary Rehabilitation service is available on an outpatient basis and is located on the second floor of the Medical Center, near Rehab Services (Physical Therapy). A physician referral is required as well as a PFT within the last 12 months. For more information on the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, contact Berny Winters, RRT, at 636-528-3364. |

SLEEP DISORDERS CENTER The Center works to educate the public on sleeping disorders, including how to recognize them and ways to make living with a sleep disorder more tolerable. LCMC has two sleep rooms designed specifically for sleep studies.
The goal of our Sleep Disorders Center is to help people determine if they have a sleep disorder and then identify an appropriate treatment path. Overnight sleep studies conducted at the Center provide the information needed to make a diagnosis.
The technicians at the Center attach various monitoring devices to the patients before they go to sleep. These devices track everything from breathing and pulse rate to brainwave activity. The state-of-the-art equipment at LCMC allows the patient to sleep in a comfortable environment while their sleep patterns are monitored closely and recorded.
Conditions that are diagnosed and treated at the Sleep Disorders Center include Sleep Apnea, Insomnia, Advanced Sleep Phase Syndrome (ASPS), Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD), Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), REM Sleep Behavior Disorder, and Sleepwalking. If you feel you would benefit from these services, talk to your personal physician about your symptoms and ask for a referral to the Sleep Disorders Center. Most insurance plans cover the cost of sleep disorder evaluations and treatments.
